Every once and awhile you pick just the right place to stay while away from home. Having had a few vacation “disasters” in my past, it is nice to know that sometimes I get it right!

I took a mini-vacation to Asheville, North Carolina end of last week and weekend and found myself, after a fair amount of careful research, at the Reynolds Mansion.
If you like a bit of history in your travels, and can appreciate a bed and breakfast accommodation that is older than you are – this is the place for you! I appreciate old furniture, old paintings and pictures, and old houses. The Reynolds Mansion provides!
Built in 1847 by Daniel Reynolds, the mansion is considered one of the top historic homes remaining in the Blue Ridge mountains and is ranked Number ONE by TripAdvisor for bed and breakfast accommodation in Asheville. The Inn has some 18,000 square feet of space and three large porches from which to enjoy the beautiful hilltop view.

Second floor landing – Reynolds Mansion
The interior is just hard to describe – and I am rarely speechless! In a sentence, everything is right where it should be! Claw foot bathtubs in the suites, a huge chandelier in the dining room, pictures of the Reynolds family and friends cover the walls, wide landings open onto huge, wide porches, and long hallways and long mirrors take you back to a time when a “fine house” was built with size and built to last!
This home has been carefully renovated to retain not only its style, but its designation on the National Registry of Historic Places. In fact, Reynolds Mansion is one of only ten brick homes remaining that was in existence before the Civil War.

Did I mention breakfast? This is a “bed and breakfast” after all – right?

Ready for the next day’s breakfast!
I peeked into the dining room one evening on my way to get some ice and had to get a photo of the dining room, tables immaculately set and ready for the next morning’s breakfast at 9 am. Although I am not a huge breakfast person, I can tell you that between what I did have, and the aromatic smells coming from the kitchen each morning, and the satisfied look on my traveling companion’s face when he returned from his morning’s breakfast feast, the word “breakfast” takes on a whole new level!
I’ll borrow the description from the Reynolds Mansion web site since I couldn’t say it any better:
“Our sumptuous three-course breakfast starts with fruit juice, home made buttermilk biscuits or muffins and a specially prepared fruit dish. A tantalizing hot entrée is then presented to you to give your taste buds an early morning treat. The menu of the day might include Sweet Pepper Scrambled Eggs, Breakfast Casserole, Ginger Pancakes with Lemon Sauce, or our back-to-basics southern style breakfast.”
I look for certain things when I stay way from home: quiet, clean, cozy, comfortable, and convenient. If these same things are important to you, you’ll want to visit the Reynolds Mansion web site and select the room of your choice – everything else you’ll need is already there.
Take a photo tour of Reynolds Mansion!
